The governing body of St Agnes Catholic Primary School is the Admissions Authority for this school. The Admissions Policy Criteria will be applied on an Equal Preference basis. The governing body intends to admit up to 20 pupils to the Reception year group in September 2009. This number will apply to the Reception Year and to every other year in the school. Where there are insufficient places available to meet all parental preferences, priortiy will be given to application in the following order.
      1. Children who are baptised as Catholics or have been formally received into the Catholic Church and who are children in public care.

2. Children who are baptised as Catholics or have been formally reveived into the Catholic Church ans whose haome address is within the parish boundaries of St Agnes' Parish.

3. Children who are baptised as Catholics or have been foramlly received into the Catholic Church, whose home addresss is outside of the parish boundaries of St Agnes' Parish, but who worship in the Church of St Agnes'.

4. Children who are baptised as Catholics or have been formally reveived into the Catholic Church, whose haome address is ousde of the parsh boundaries of St Agnes' Parish with a brother or sister already attending the school at the time of admission.

5. Children who are baptised as Catholics or have been fromally received into the Catholic Church, whose home address is ouside fo the paricsh boundaries of St Agnes' Parsh who do not have a brother or sister already attending the school at the time of admission.

6. Children who have not been baptised as Catholics nor have been formally received into the Catholic Church, but who are children in public care.

7. Brothers and sisters of children of other Christian denoniminations and who will aready be attending the school at the time of admission.

8. Brothers and sisters of children of other Faith traditions and who will aready be attending the school at the time of admission.

9. Children of other Christion demonimations who do not have a brother or sister at the school.

10. Children of other Faith traditions who do not have a brother or sister a the school.

11. Other children.

If applicants are seeking admission under any of the criteria 1 to 5 above, they will be asked to provide evidence that the children has been baptised as a Catholic or has been received into the Catholic Church.

If applicants are seeking admssion under any of cirteria 7, 8, 9, 10 above, they will be asked for a letter of support from their minister of Faith leader, or suitable equivalent. For Christian applicants a baptismal certificate should be provided wherever possible.

We can consider individual applications involving medical or social needs. This kind of application must be supported in writing by relevant profession agencies i.e a doctor or social worker Children who have statement of Special Educational Need which names our school will be admitted to the school. If your child has Special Educatioal Needs but does not have a "statement" of need then your application will be considered on the basis of the school's admission criterion. However if you believe your child's special needs are relevant to the reasons for applying to our school for example on medical or social grounds then you should tell us about this on your application form. In these cricumstances you will have to provide supporting evidence in wiriting from a professional i.e a doctor or a social worker.

Where there are places available for some, but not all applicants within a particular criterion, distance form the home address to the main school enterance on St Agnes Gardens, will be the deciding factor, with preference being given to those whose home address is nearset to the main school enterence on St Agnes' Gardens, when measured by the safest, shortest walking route.

Where a parent has been notified that a place is not avialable for a child, every effort will be made to help the parent to find a place in a suitable alternative school. Parents who are refused a place have a statutory right of appeal. Further deatiails of the appeals process are available by writing to the Chairman of Governors at the school address.

It is very helpful to have an early indication of the number of children to be admitted to the Reception class in the following September. However, it must be stressed that formal written applications for admission must be made on the form provided by the Local Authority and returned to them by the stated date. Places will then be allocated by strict application of the above criteria, with no reference to the date of application. Parents will be notified as to whether or not their child has been allocated a place on 20 April 2009.

Appeals Procedure

There is a Appeal Procedure available to parents whose application for admission is refused by the Governors. Further advice on this procedure will be given by the Headteacher on request.

The Headteacher is ahppy to arrange visits to the school for those parents who wish to send their children or who simply wish to find out more. Such visits are normally arranged by letter or telephone.

Parents will normally receive notifiction of whether or not they have a place for their child before the beginning of the Summer Term. Parents will be invited to a meeting when they can meet the Staff and look around the school. Children about to start school will make visits during the latter half of the Summer term to meet each other and their teachers.

More detailed information about starting school and what happens in the Recption class is found in the Policy, Curriculum and "Starting School" booklets which are given to parents and which are sppecific to the children's first year in school.
